Bryant & Stratton College Online

Bryant & Stratton College Online Launches the Pay It Forward Scholarship Program; Recipients Will Receive a Scholarship for Themselves and Be Empowered to Give One Away

Full-Tuition Scholarship Program Will Award a Total of Ten Scholarships; Applications Are Due December 31

BUFFALO, NY--(Marketwire - October 12, 2010) - Bryant & Stratton College Online today announced that it is now accepting applications for its new Pay It Forward Scholarship program. Pay It Forward is a program that will award a total of ten full-tuition scholarships for online associate's degree programs at Bryant & Stratton College, as well as five $5,000 scholarships to the remaining finalists. The program recognizes and rewards recipients who are not only interested in improving their lives with education, but who also want to "pay it forward" to someone else. Scholarship recipients will be able to award their second scholarship to a friend, family member, colleague or even a community organization, which could then award the scholarship to a deserving individual.

"We want to recognize people who are helping others, but may not take the time to help themselves. This program gives people the chance to improve their own life, as well as someone else's through education, without having to worry about the cost," said Scott Traylor, Associate Campus Director for Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College. "As a school, Bryant & Stratton College is committed to giving back to the communities we serve, so it is only natural to offer a scholarship that shares that same spirit."

To apply for a Pay It Forward Scholarship, applicants must complete a three-step process.

  • Step One
Applicants must fill out a short application at www.PayItForwardScholarship.com, with their contact information and the name of the online associate's degree program at Bryant & Stratton College that they would like to pursue.
  • Step Two
Applicants must submit a short essay (200-500 words) describing why they deserve the scholarship. The essay should touch upon the good works the applicant has done for others and how they live the "pay it forward" lifestyle. In the essay, applicants can also describe whom they would "pay it forward" to with the second full-tuition scholarship. The application and essay must be submitted by December 31, 2010.
  • Step Three
Following the deadline on December 31, 2010, Bryant & Stratton College Online will select ten Pay It Forward Scholarship finalists from the submitted applications. Videos will be created for each finalist where they will explain why they should be chosen for a Pay It Forward Scholarship. The videos will then be posted online at www.PayItForwardScholarship.com for voting. The five finalists who get the most votes for their video will receive a full-tuition scholarship for an online associate's degree program at Bryant & Stratton College, as well as a second full-tuition scholarship to award to someone else. The remaining five finalists will receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend Bryant & Stratton College Online. All scholarship recipients will be announced in spring 2011.

"This is a very unique and exciting program," continued Traylor. "We look forward to hearing stories from people on how they've helped others and how they want to 'pay forward' a scholarship. From a daughter who wants her mother to receive a Pay It Forward Scholarship so she can get the degree she's always wanted, or someone who decides to award a scholarship to their best friend so they can back go to school together, the options are numerous, but the result will be the same -- more people getting the education they deserve."

To be eligible, Pay It Forward Scholarship applicants must meet all current Bryant & Stratton College scholarship and enrollment requirements. The complete rules and regulations can be reviewed at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/pay-it-forward/rules/.

On Wednesday, October 13, 2010, Doreen Justinger, Vice President of Online Education at Bryant & Stratton College, will kick off the Pay It Forward Scholarship program on 'The Balancing Act' airing on Lifetime Television. Business Management Degree Holders Are Beating the Recession

Business Management Degree Holders Are Beating the Recession

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- With an economy in a tailspin, a great way to be on a safe side is to obtain a graduate or at least an undergraduate degree in the field of business management. This specialization is under demand worldwide. Ultimately, this has resulted in a growing demand of business management majors leading to wonderful salaries.

This is one of very few degrees that will land a high paying job for graduates even in a recession. Universities and colleges know they must offer something more than the conventional business administration degree to help their graduates succeed in the job market so the offerings are growing. Students are provided with more options including human resources, supply chain logistics and information technology in order to make them prepare for managing ever-increasing demands of multinational organizations.

According to Sheila Danzig, founder of http://www.TheDegree.com, the premier Internet online degree portal, starting salary packages for undergraduate business degree holders vary from $35,000 to $50,000. The starting salary is based initially on the specialization of the graduate and the geographical location of the job. Some of the most well known majors in which people specialize are administration, finance, marketing, accounting and economics. Most business institutions require students to take core courses. There are some jobs which are perfectly suited to the graduates from all majors and everyone holding a business degree can do these jobs to his best. For instance, a holder of finance major can properly manage all those assignments which would probably fit in for an accounting major holder. The three majors which lead to most handsome salaries and readily available job opportunities are financial services, health care and information technology. A great advantage of accounting majors with CPA accreditation is that they have the most stable jobs since their demand is always less than their supply.

Danzig added that students who go on to obtain their Masters in Business Administration increase their earning power. She further stated that qualified MBAs have a starting salary ranging between $60,000 to as much as $100,000. MBA majors like IT and finance majors get an average of $80,000. Experienced professionals holding Executive MBA degrees obtain higher than $100,000.

However, Danzig did highlight the point that although money is extremely important in life, it should not be the only reason to obtain a degree in business management. She firmly said that the students should be passionate about their studies.

After obtaining this degree, and specifically in any one of the highly demanded majors, the graduates will not face any problem in getting hired.

The fastest way to both graduate and undergraduate business management programs is online study. You can compare different online institutions at http://www.TheDegree.com.

Online Learning: From Associates to Graduate Degrees

Online Learning: From Associates to Graduate Degrees

What if you are interested in learning about forensics or want to take a creative writing class for credit toward a bachelor’s degree? These and other courses one wouldn’t ordinarily think could be taught via the Internet are the new online courses. You can find a specialized course online for almost anything--even knitting!

A. Frank Mayadas, Ph.D., Program Director of the Sloan Foundation, observes that asynchronous learning will drive online learning to provide new online courses on a breadth and scale hardly imaginable. He sees specialized courses online growing and notes that it’s already happening. Online learners now have a spectacular range of possibilities, from full-fledged online degrees to classes in doll-making.

Online Learning: New Frontiers

When distance learning was first developing, it was primarily geared toward working adults in their late twenties to mid-thirties. They wanted to enhance their career development or get the degree they hadn’t gotten because of jobs and families. Online colleges and other institutions that offered online learning catered to their interests, with professional courses and degrees in business and health. Now, as the technology used to deliver online learning becomes more advanced and online learning is more accepted, the subject matter of courses is becoming more diverse. For instance, younger students who want to get a liberal arts bachelor’s degree online need more options. “Online learning is still very much in the career area,” says Brian Mueller, CEO of the University of Phoenix Online. But he surmises that as younger students get involved in online learning, they will want to have more liberal arts courses leading to degrees simply because they are used to an online environment and for the convenience it gives them.

Online Degree Basics: Where Do I Start?

Online Degree Basics: Where Do I Start?

You’ve made the decision; you want to earn a college degree online. But how to begin? EducationOnline is an excellent resource with extensive information available about earning an online degree including all the online degree basics. But before you can begin applying to the online school of your choice, you need to figure out what you want to study. Below you’ll find the Who, Why, What, Where and How of choosing the right online program for you.

Who

You, of course, that’s who. What do you want out of an online degree? Do you have a degree path in mind? Take some time to consider things. What do you do well when it comes to school? What gave you trouble in school—writing papers, taking notes, or showing up to class prepared? All of these are important factors to consider before moving forward with your online college degree research. A good exercise is to sit down and write down answers to the questions above. College is challenging, even when your courses are online, and knowing your strengths and weaknesses before you start in is key. Take the time to really dig deep and understand yourself before taking the next step and deciding where to learn education online.

Why

This is important: WHY do you want to earn an online degree? Are you fulfilling a life-long dream, or simply following the expectations of your parents or friends? Are you hoping for a lucrative career and a degree is the next step down that path? Whatever your reason, if you are doing it for yourself and the dreams you hold for your life, you are more likely to succeed.

What

You’ve heard, and probably dreaded, the question: what do you want to do with your life? To answer this question, you need to do more self-examination. Let’s start with your interests. What types of things excite you? What types of jobs or careers appeal to you? Don’t feel restricted by the expectations of others—let your hopes and dreams soar when considering these ideas.

Now, let’s look at your abilities. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What kind of skills do you have? Look at the courses you took in high school. What were your best subjects? Is there a pattern there? What kinds of extracurricular activities did you participate in while in high school? What kinds of things did you learn from part-time or summer jobs?

The next step is to examine what you value in work. Do you value helping society? Do you like working under pressure? Are you interested in a specific group affiliation? What about stability, security, status, pacing, working alone or with groups, or having a positive impact on other people?

Now, the reality check. You need to honestly evaluate your options. Do you have an interest in being a doctor, but have little skill in science? Does your occupation require an advanced degree, but you have no desire to go to graduate school? Do you have a strong interest in the arts, but your family is convinced you will become a lawyer like your father? None of these things should stop you, necessarily, but it is still important to face these obstacles and be realistic about whether you can get around them.

Finally, based on all your research and self-assessment, you should now have a better idea of the careers and majors you are not interested in pursuing as well as a handful of potential careers and majors that do interest you. You are now ready to begin your online college degree research.

Where

This question is just as important but much more practical. The first step, of course, is to find out the best college for your degree choice, and then find out if they offer an online degree option. If they don’t, what online university offers the best program? Because you are choosing to earn your degree online, you have a much wider range of choices when it comes to where to learn education online.

Secondly, you should spend some time researching how the online school assists its graduates. Does it offer career counseling? How about job placement assistance? Once you’ve graduated you’ll need some assistance taking that next step. Check out how your online college will help you.

Last, but not least, is the college you’ve chosen accredited? When choosing to earn your degree online, you need to be very careful that you aren’t falling for a diploma mill or other online scam. Make sure the online university you choose is well known, established, and has all the proper academic accreditation before paying any fees or submitting an application.

Once you have all this information, you will have covered all the online degree basics and you will know which online college is the best place for you.

How

Ah, how may seem like the biggest question. How will I get in? How will I pay for college? How will I manage to work while going to school? Luckily, because you’ve chosen to earn your degree online, you have more options than most students. You can go to school online, part-time or full-time allowing you to keep your day job if you’d like to.

Financial aid is readily available to anyone who needs it, even students attending online, making a college degree a reality for everyone. The admissions counselors at the online college you choose can help you navigate the paperwork required and provide guidance on both financial aid and your course load.

To earn your online college degree, all it takes is making the commitment and taking that first step. Good luck, and good learning!

Best Online Education & Teaching Degree Programs

Best Online Education & Teaching Degree Programs

If education or teaching is the career you desire, then you have options available through online degree programs. Working with younger children in an early childhood education setting, you may only need an associate degree, but sometimes these positions do require a Bachelor’s degree. If you prefer to teach in a school, you will need to enroll in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program to meet your goals. In addition to a college degree, teachers also need certification or licensure from the state in which they wish to teach, which can sometimes be obtained while working on the degree or can be gotten after the degree coursework is complete. Another degree option is obtaining a Ph.D. to teach college or university level courses. For a Bachelor’s degree online, you can expect to spend about 2 to 3 years on your studies and about 1 1/2 to 2 years for a Master’s program. Many programs also include the certification process as a part of their curriculum. If you want to teach elementary school, your studies will likely include a range of all subjects you will be teaching such as math, English, social studies, and science, as well as teaching theories, classroom management, and child development. Middle school and high school teachers will probably focus more intently on their subject of choice during their education rather than the wider range seen with elementary school teachers.

Why Bachelor Degree Online?

Why Bachelor Degree Online?

When most people think of getting a bachelor degree, they think of going to a traditional brick and mortar university. These programs typically run for four years and often require a lot of spent time and money to obtain.
Recently, however, there has been a sort of “educational” revolution in the college system whereby degrees online have become more popular. While degrees conferred from internet-only institutions have been historically regarded as inferior, there is quite a bit evidence to suggest that this attitude is dramatically changing as these types of degrees becomes more commonplace. For example, it has been reported that 68% of respondents believe that an online bachelor degree takes more discipline to earn than going to a traditional university.

Since these programs are comparable to traditional university educations, you might be wondering why you would want to get a higher education online as opposed to going about it the traditional way. There are a couple of big reasons, the first of which is time. They often take a lot less time to earn than enrolling in a university, whereas the latter will almost always take you four years, there are some amazing programs that can take as little as 18 months or even one year to complete. In addition, because all the courses are strictly online, you can easily work while you’re in school, thereby reducing a tremendous amount of financial worry that many students experience.

Secondly, online courses can also save you a lot in costs. While conventional university programs have to charge excessive prices due to high overhead costs, an online degree program can admit more students and charge less overall. For example, unless you are in-state, going to out-of-state universities are virtually guaranteed to cost $15,000-$50,000 per year, and that’s not including books, medical insurance, loan interest you might have to pay, etc.. By contrast, good online colleges will often be around or less than $15,000 or so per year, require less time to complete (you might pay $15,000 for two years as opposed to four), have few to no additional fees, and permit you to have a full-time job as you’re going to school.

Indeed, if you’re thinking about reigniting your current career or hopping on over to another one, then taking an online degree is probably right for you. The benefits you’ll obtain will be excellent, and the fact that you can complete the bachelor degree in less time and with less money than a conventional institution makes the case much more compelling. The path to a brighter future isn’t too far around the corner. Just choose a reputable online university, enroll, complete the course work, and before you know it you’ll be smarter and making more money than you ever thought you could!
